Indian Head Massage

What is Indian Head Massage?

This therapy has been practised in India for over 400 years and is aslo known as Champissage.

It is a relaxing massage to the upper back, shoulders, neck, head, scalp and face. Massaging these areas has a profoundly calming effect and increases  the oxygen supply to the brain. The client remains fully clothed and it is performed with you in a seated position.

What are the benefits of Indian Head Massage?

Reduces stress

Increases energy and improves alertness

Reduces muscular and nervous tension

Reduces back, neck and shoulder stifness and pain

Reduces headaches and eye strain

Can help you reach a deep state of relaxation

What happens during a treatment?

The beauty of this massage is that you do not need to undress to enjoy it.  You sit on a  chair and  as no creams or oils are used,  it can be done anywhere.

I use a range of different movements including deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulder and scalp areas. In addition, I will also gently work on pressure points on the face. I encourage you to sit quietly for ten or twenty minutes once the massage has been completed.

What are the side effects and when should it be avoided?

Following a treatment some clients experience tiredness, dizziness, an increased desire to urinate (as the body eliminates toxins and waste materials) or aching muscles. All of these side effects usually last for no more than a few hours, after which clients generally experience increased energy and alertness. Indian head massage should be avoided if you have had recent surgery,  a head or neck injury, a history of thrombosis or embolism, spondylitis or spondylosis.  Always make sure that you avoid alcohol for at least five hours before the treatment.

How often should I have treatment?

You can have Indian Head Massage as often as you like.  You may benefit from combining it with another therapy which I will be happy to discuss with you.
